Awkward Question: “I have a disability (Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy), but I need to spice up my sex life with the hubby.
How can a woman with a disability and who isn’t interested in sex toys spice up her sex life?”
Honestly, not everyone looks at sex toys as the ultimate indulgence or answer to their sexual problems. The truth is, they are not. Toys are used as aides in sexual exploration and enjoyment, and cannot always solve a problem. In this instance, we have to look deeper at the issue to find a real and practical solution.
What Is Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy?
LGMD is actually a group of disorders that affect the voluntary muscles, primarily those around the hips and shoulders.
The girdle term refers to the shoulder girdle; the bony structure surrounding the shoulder area. The bony structure around the hip area is called the “pelvic girdle.” Collectively they are called limb girdle, and the muscles connected to the limb girdles are primarily affected by this type of dystrophy.
What Are the Symptoms of Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy?
LGMD, like other muscular dystrophies, is primarily a disorder of voluntary muscles. These are the muscles you use to move the limbs, neck, trunk and other parts of the body that are under voluntary control. Over time, muscle weakness and atrophy can lead to limited mobility and an inability to raise the arms above the shoulders.
LGMD can happen at any age.
LGMD and Sexual Performance
Due to the constant changes that this disorder may bring, individuals can encounter difficulty enjoying sexual activity. While I continue to research trends in LGMD research, I have come up with a list of suggestions that may return sex to a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

My suggestion is to start off easy. A simple lube and vibrator can make missionary style far more exciting than you’ve ever experienced. I always suggest starting off with a mild toy and a great lubricant. There is no need to overwhelm yourself; on the quest to sexual liberation there will be plenty of rest stops. Disabilities do not have to hinder sex or sexual gratification. As long as the individual(s) understand that finding pleasure starts with exploration. Unless you taste a fruit, you will never know whether it is something you like or not. Don’t be afraid to branch out and try new things. The worst that can happen is a lesson learned.
