Summer is in full effect, and many of us are out on vacations, staycations or in our home pools. If you’re like any of the millions who shave their bikini line, you know the dread that can come with it. Razor bumps, irritation, hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) – who really has time for that?

I honestly prefer to wax, but when I’m short on time – I am not afraid to shave. I’ve mastered this art at home, and have built my own strategy through trial and error that has yet to fail me. I love giving away life hacks, so I’m ready to share it with you. Here are a few tips to keep your summer bikini line sexy…

– Cleanse.

No one should EVER shave dirty skin. Not only does it dull and dirty your blade/shaver, but it leaves your skin vulnerable to infection. Considering that the bikini line leads to one of our most precious organs – I think we should be taking special care. Not only should you clean your shaver with rubbing alcohol or Barbicide, you should clean yourself.

The Nectar cleanser is all natural and contains the anti-bacterial properties of raw honey. Not only does this help soothe your skin, but it helps avoid infection, should you accidentally nick yourself. Ancient clay absorbs oils and sweat, while castile soap and essential oils gently clean the skin.

Now that your special place is feeling squeaky clean, time to get started.

– Shave.

Make sure that your razor or shaver is clean before every use.  I really enjoy using my Norelco shaver, because it gets really close without ever cutting the skin. When I say close, I mean labia close.

I’m not an expert with the shape game, but I like to leave a little strip at the top. Do what you wish at this point.

– Exfoliate.

This part is important, because shaving doesn’t remove hair from the follicles. If you miss a hair or two, you’re at risk for ingrown hairs and irritation. Exfoliating works those potential missed hairs out of the skin, and allows the hairs to lay on top of the skin instead.

Try a gentle exfoliant, like our Honey Love masque. Not only does it exfoliate using sugars and spices, the raw honey is antibacterial. Perfect for after shave care. Rinse in the shower and pat dry.

Soothe.

There are few things worse than an itchy, irritated crotch area. When the genital region is irritated, it stops being a vagina and starts being a crotch. Just, crude and unhappy. Using a soothing serum after shaving or waxing gives your body time to re-grow hair without agitating your entire bikini line and sex life.

The PrivateRx Soothing Serum is an intense super-moisturizing aftercare product to help prevent ingrown hair and irritation caused by shaving or waxing. Couple this with their Cooling Wipes, and you’ve got a cool breeze down there. I especially enjoy going commando after using this duo – it’s a real summer treat.
